Green steel and shipping report

Report Green steel and shipping

In order to create a sustainable, future-proof shipping industry, we need to rethink how we build, operate, and recycle vessels. Steel is the primary shipbuilding material, and addressing steel emissions unlocks opportunities to decarbonise across the ship lifecycle, alongside opportunities to collaborate with the steel industry and other steel demand sectors.

The Green steel and shipping explores the potential for green steel, its use within shipping, and how steel production, shipbuilding and ship recycling can be adapted to embed circularity principles throughout. The report outlines drivers and barriers to closing the loop on steel in shipping, from rethinking business models to increasing transparency and traceability.
