Progress against milestone 1.2030.1
Shipping-related ocean governance is strengthened, with improved coordination on ocean impacts and issues and ramped up enforcement of laws and regulation
April 22, 2024

The Danish government has banned scrubber discharge from ships within 22km of Danish coasts. Effective from July 1, 2025 for open-loop scrubbers and July 1, 2029 for closed-loop scrubbers.

Ships must switch to low-sulfur fuel or closed scrubbers with zero emissions, and the residual product from scrubbers must be delivered to port reception facilities. These measures aim to reduce the harmful substances in the marine environment, with expected reduction of up to 20% for nickel and 7% for anthracene.
